Reading Amateur Regatta – June 2013

The BRC Senior Women’s final taste of competition before Henley Women’s was W.IM2.4+ on the Sunday of Reading Amateur Regatta. On the Saturday, the crew took the opportunity to spend the day training in Henley-on-Thames where they were pleased with the progress made despite windy conditions to rival Edgbaston Reservoir!

With an entry of five crews in their event, BRC were required to race a quarter-final against City of Oxford while the other three crews were handed a bye to the semi-finals. The wind had dropped slightly since the previous day but the crew was still faced with a strong headwind.

Unfortunately they were not able to replicate the form they had found in Henley the previous day, and despite a strong start that stole a slight advantage, they soon found themselves around a length down. The crew worked hard to maintain contact with the Oxford crew but could not close the gap, eventually losing with a verdict of 2L.

It was a disappointing performance after the positive training the day before, but the crew know they can do better and will look to put right the mistakes made in their final outings before Henley.

The crew was:

WIM2 4+ S Tasha Scott, 3 Emma Tod, 2 Emma Raynor, B Lisa Meegan, C Silvia Breu

Many thanks to Silvia for coxing and to Dave, Sandy and Roddie for their support on the day. Thanks also to Henley Rowing Club for hosting the crew.
